Police charge man with theft attempt
A 22-year-old man was charged Friday with trying to steal parts from a vehicle at an auto auction in broad daylight, police said.
Stafford County Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said Deputy Joe Duggins went to the Fredericksburg Auto Auction off U.S. 17 about 9 a.m. in response to a reported larceny in progress.
Security guards had seen a car pull into a section with numerous unsold vehicles. The passenger got out and went to a Nissan Sentra.
By the time the security guards arrived, the suspect had several tools out and had taken the dashboard apart. He later told police that he was looking to see if a microchip had burned out.
Taryk Lopez–Suchite was charged with attempted grand larceny, possession of burglary tools and tampering with a vehicle. He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
The man who drove Lopez–Suchite to the lot was not arrested. The man, who had driven several aisles away, claimed he had no idea what Lopez–Suchite was doing.
