Man accused of pointing gun at trio he’d partied with
A Stafford County man is accused of breaking into a home and pointing a gun at three people he had been partying with a short time earlier, police said.
James Hawthorne, 32, was charged with breaking and entering with a deadly weapon, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, public intoxication and four counts of assault.
According to Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy, the incident started at a gathering in the 200 block of Garrison Woods Drive in North Stafford late Saturday and early Sunday. Witnesses said a man became extremely intoxicated and at one point yelled at and pushed a woman in her 20s. The woman pushed him back and the man was asked to leave.
Kennedy said that as the man was leaving, he told the others he was going to return and “shoot the place up.” He returned with a gun about 12:50 a.m. and pointed it at three people, but no shots were fired.
The Sheriff’s Office was called, and Lt. Brian Jacobs spotted Hawthorne and two others in a vehicle that was coming back into the Garrison Woods complex. Hawthorne was taken into custody and another man who had nothing to do with the altercation was charged with being drunk in public.
Hawthorne was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
