A Stafford County man was awakened early Wednesday by a shot that was fired through his bedroom window, police said.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bill Kennedy said the incident occurred about 3 a.m. in the 200 block of Choptank Road in Vista Woods subdivision in North Stafford. The resident was in bed when he awoke to a loud noise and breaking glass.

Other occupants of the home rushed into the room to see what was going on. No one reported seeing a shooter or a vehicle in the area, and no one in the house was aware of any reason for anyone to shoot into the house.

Deputy Christian Mireles responded and found a bullet hole in the top half of the front bedroom window and shattered glass on the mattress. A shell casing was found outside near the roadway.

Detectives are investigating, Kennedy said. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 540/659-2020 or the Sheriff’s Office at 540/658-4400.
