Woman out on bond, man held in boy’s death
A woman arrested following the death of a 10-year-old boy in Orange County was released on bond Monday, but a man charged in the case remains jailed.
Orange Commonwealth’s Attorney Diana Wheeler said Tina Marie Toombs, 36, was released on $500 bond. Toombs was charged with felony child abuse and neglect in the case.
Billy Joe Lee, 37, continues to be held in the Central Virginia Regional Jail on charges of felony child abuse and neglect, child endangerment and two counts related to discharging a firearm.
The two were arrested after the boy was found dead from a gunshot wound Sunday night at a home on the 16000 block of Matthews Mill Road southwest of Unionville.
Authorities have not said how the boy was shot or whether either of the adults was related to him. Wheeler declined to release additional details Monday, saying the case was still under investigation.
According to a news release from the school system, the boy was a fourth-grader at Lightfoot Elementary School. Lightfoot Principal Jewel Williams sent a letter to parents Tuesday, saying the school system had implemented a plan to offer students at both Lightfoot and Unionville elementary schools “an opportunity to talk about their thoughts, reactions, and feelings with the trained professional staff.”
