Two charged after Orange boy’s death
Two adults are facing charges following the death of a 10-year-old boy in Orange County on Sunday night.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting, which happened in the 16000 block of Matthews Mill Road southwest of Unionville. When deputies arrived at the home at 11:10 p.m., the boy was already dead of an apparent gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Tina Marie Toombs, 36, was charged with felony child abuse and neglect. Billy Joe Lee, 37, was charged with felony child abuse and neglect, child endangerment and two counts related to discharging a firearm.
The Sheriff’s Office did not say how the boy was shot or whether either of the adults was related to him. Its release said no further details would be released “at this time.”
According to a news release from the school system, the boy was a fourth-grader at Lightfoot Elementary School.
The Orange County school division sent an alert to parents letting them know about the death. The email told parents that counselors were available to students Monday and would be again today.
