It’s Community Cleanup Week in Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg residents ready for some heavy-duty spring cleaning have their chance starting on Monday.

Community Cleanup Week, sponsored by the city and the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board, runs through Friday.

Each spring and fall, the city’s Public Works Department sets out special containers to help city residents and businesses spruce up their properties, yards and neighborhoods.

People may take furniture, tires, appliances, scrap materials and brush from yards to the collection sites.

Anyone who wants an appliance picked up should call 540/372-1023 to schedule it by 4 p.m. on Monday. Appliances will be picked up only on Tuesday.

Household trash, paint and hazardous materials should not be placed in the containers. The next Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day will be June 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the regional landfill on Eskimo Hill Road in Stafford County.

Here’s a list of container locations throughout the city for next week:

Summit Street and Airport Avenue in Mayfield;

The 1400 block of Kenmore Avenue beside Cossey Botanical Park;

Freedom Lane in the gravel lot between VFW Post 3103 and the Falmouth Bridge;

The Belman Road Recycling Center, 1200 Belman Road;

Altoona Drive at the Sam Perry Fire House;

Rappahannock Avenue at Payne Street;

Braehead Woods near Meade Court.
