A Ruther Glen man faces several charges after being accused of leading Virginia State Police on a high-speed, two-county pursuit before flipping and crashing his motorcycle.
State Police Trooper J.P. Cleary attempted to stop a motorcyclist for an equipment violation on Ladysmith Road near Clark and York Boulevard in Caroline County around 10:12 Saturday night, said State Police Spokesman Thomas Molnar.
The driver of the Honda CBR 945 RR motorcycle failed to stop and continued to flee after the trooper activated his emergency lights, Molnar said.
Molnar said speeds reached more than 100 miles per hour and the pursuit lasted about four minutes before the motorcycle ran off the right side of the road and overturned several times on Partlow Road at Mount Olive Road in Spotsylvania County. The motorcyclist, 35-year-old James A. Hayden of the 900 block of Swan Lane in Lake Land’Or community, suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries. He was flown to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
Hayden was wearing a safety helmet, Molnar said.
He is charged with two felony counts of eluding police, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended license and defective equipment.
Hayden was also wanted in Caroline County on five counts of violating a protective order.
