U.S. 1 Bridge over Aquia Creek
(New) Beginning Sunday, motorists should expect delays on U.S. 1 at the bridge over Aquia Creek. Lane closures will impact traffic from Sunday, March 16 until Sunday, March 23. The following schedule has been established for lane closures:
Sunday, March 16, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., one lane will be closed to traffic on the southbound side of U.S. 1
Sunday, March 16 through Sunday March 23, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., one lane will be closed to traffic on the northbound side of U.S. 1.
(New) Beginning Tuesday, motorists should be alert to periodic traffic shifts on U.S. 17 northbound, beginning at Sanford Drive and moving north towards International Parkway. The traffic shifts will take place daily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Crews will be paving in this are to prepare for a slight shift of all traffic to allow crews to continue work to widen this portion of U.S. 17. Traffic cones and signs will direct motorists to the temporary travel lanes.
(New) Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 2 approximately three miles north of the town of Bowling Green for guardrail work. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. Expect delays.
State Route 639 is being widened, creating a new left turn lane near the U.S. 1 intersection. During construction the posted speed limit will be lowered to 35 mph in the work zone. One lane will remain open in each direction during construction. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic patterns in this area. The projected completion date is May 2015.
CITY OF FREDERICKSBURG
Fall Hill Avenue is closed to all traffic at the Rappahannock Canal Bridge through November 2014, for a bridge replacement project. Motorists should use Cowan Boulevard as a detour route.
KING GEORGE COUNTY
The intersection of State Route 206, Owens Drive and Windsor Drive is being widened to accommodate new left turn lanes and right turn lanes. Single lane closures will be in place weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Projected completion date is December 2014.
•U.S. 17 is being widened from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The speed limit is reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph on northbound and southbound U.S. 17 between Cardinal Forest Drive and International Parkway. Motorists should be alert for periodic overnight lane closures. Projected completion date is December 2016.
•Crews are replacing the U.S. 1 bridge at Aquia Creek, just south of Telegraph Road. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment entering and exiting the work zone and periodic lane closures. Estimated completion is August 2015.
•Falmouth Intersection (U.S. 1/ U.S. 17/State Route 218)
(Update) Construction is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on U.S. 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Construction work will begin by fall 2015.
