A 25-year-old Fredericksburg woman was punched in the face and robbed by a masked man as she was returning home from work early Friday, police said.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the incident took place about 2:10 a.m. in the 500 block of Charlotte Street. The victim was getting out of her car when the assailant came up from behind and punched her in the face, causing her to fall into the street.
Bledsoe said he then dumped items out of her purse, grabbed cash and ran from the scene. He got less than $100 in the robbery, which lasted only a few moments.
The woman had bruises on her face from the punch but no other injuries. She was unable to provide a good description of the robber, who did not display a weapon.
Officers and a police dog searched the area but could not find the man. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call city police at 373-3122.
