Stafford County church robbed and damaged
Someone broke into a Stafford County church this weekend, stealing cash and doing quite a bit of damage.
The theft happened sometime late Sunday or early Monday, said Bill Kennedy, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
He said the culprit or culprits broke into the basement of St. William of York Catholic Church in the Aquia area.
The church safe was broken into and an undisclosed amount of cash taken, Kennedy said. Cabinets and doors were also broken, apparently in an effort to find more goods.
A connecting school also was broken into, Kennedy said. Numerous doors were broken and money was taken from a cash box.
The theft and damage were discovered around 6:30 Monday morning.
