Weather delays trial of former FBI agent
After a one-day delay caused by the weather, the trial of an FBI agent accused of killing his estranged wife will start Wednesday in Stafford Circuit Court.
Arthur Gonzales, 43, is charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the April 19 slaying of 42-year-old Julie Serna Gonzales in North Stafford.
Jury selection was supposed to start Tuesday, but Judge Sarah Deneke decided late Monday to push the scheduled five-day trial back a day.
Mark Gardner, Gonzales’ attorney, and prosecutors were in court Tuesday to debate a request by Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Olsen for a continuance. Deneke denied the request.
