Winter Storm Warning issued for Fredericksburg; heavy snow expected

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Fredericksburg area from 3 a.m. Monday to to 9 p.m. Monday.

Rain is expected to start late this afternoon in the region and continue past midnight. Sometime before 4 a.m., the NWS says, the rain will turn to freezing rain and sleet. Temperatures overnight will drop to about 25 degrees.

Between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., a mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet is expected to fall throughout the region. By 10 a.m., the mix is expected to turn to all snow, which may be heavy at times. Temperatures will fall to about 20 degrees by 1 p.m. Monday.

Winds of 10 to 15 mph may gust up to 25 mph during the day.

Snow may accumulate 6 to 10 inches before tapering off around 7 p.m.
