Crash clogs Route 3 and Westwood Drive
UPDATE 4:24 p.m.
A driver of a mail truck has been charged with making an improper turn in connection with the crash that shut down Route 3 earlier today.
A mail truck was traveling eastbound on Route 3 and was turning left to go into a driveway and was struck on the right side by a Volvo traveling westbound up the hill, police said. The driver of the mail truck was briefly trapped inside her truck because the driver’s door, on the right side, was jammed, according to Fredericksburg Police Spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe.
The employee, Glenna Tate, 53, of Stafford was transported by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital with minor injuries, primarily caused by broken glass, Bledsoe said.
The driver of the Volvo, a female city resident, was not injred.
Tate was charged with making an improper turn.
All lanes of Route 3 were shut down for a time while the accident was investigated and reopened just before 2 p.m.
UPDATE 1:57 p.m. All lanes are now open.
An automobile accident has shut down all but one lane in each direction on State Route 3 and Westwood Drive.
The crash involved two vehicles — a mail truck and another vehicle and at least one of the drivers was trapped in their vehicle.
One lane is open in each direction.
