One charged following party at Stafford motel
A young Stafford County man was jailed after he was caught with several younger teens in a motel room filled with marijuana smoke and beer cans Saturday night, police said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said Deputy Brandon Gates went to the Country Inn and Suites at 26 Wicomico Drive in North Stafford in response to a report of teenagers having a party in one of the rooms.
When Gates got there, he saw three juveniles outside a room. When they saw Gates, they ran out of the building. Gates chased them into the woods but was unable to catch them.
Kennedy said Gates returned to the motel and knocked on the room door. He went in and saw three more juveniles, two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old, along with an older teen and a strong odor of marijuana. There were also multiple beer cans and burnt cigarettes in the room.
The minors were turned over to their parents with no charges, Kennedy said.
A 19-year-old in the room, Joshua Allan Stamper, was charged with possession of marijuana, underage possession of alcohol and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Court records show that Stamper was charged with underage possession of alcohol earlier this month and was convicted of a marijuana charge in December.
