A warrant has been obtained for one man and police are trying to identify several others following an incident Friday in which a Fredericksburg man was beaten by at least four assailants.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. at the 7-Eleven at 1613 Dixon St. Responding officers found the 26-year-old victim suffering from multiple facial injuries.
The victim, who was taken by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment, told police he was in the 7-Eleven when a group of four to five men approached him. A short time later, the victim was walking back into the store when the group surrounded him near the door and began pummeling him.
The victim was struck repeatedly and had one eye swollen shut and a head injury, Bledsoe said. A surveillance camera at the business picked up parts of the incident and supports the victim’s story; the victim gave no indication what might have prompted the attack, police said. The victim was able to identify one of his attackers and gave a street name for a second man, Bledsoe said. Deontay Washington, 21, of Fredericksburg is charged with malicious wounding by mob. He had not been apprehended as of Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing as police try to identify the other people involved in the assault, Bledsoe said.
