Spotsylvania sex offender sentenced to prison
A registered sex offender from Spotsylvania County was sentenced to prison Monday on an aggravated sexual battery charge.
Mickey Fields, 45, of Mansfield Street in Sylvania Heights was sentenced in Spotsylvania Circuit Court to 10 years in prison with all but 3 1/2 years suspended.
As part of an agreement with the county prosecutor, Fields entered an Alford plea to a charge of aggravated sexual battery, and in exchange a second count of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor were dropped. The Alford plea means that while he denies committing the crime, he acknowledges the evidence is sufficient for a conviction.
According to court records, Fields was riding bikes in a field with an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old on Feb 11. Court records state that he touched the 12-year-old girl inappropriately. He was arrested less than two weeks later.
According to the Sex Offender Registry of Virginia, Fields was convicted of sexual battery of a minor in 2007 in Spotsylvania.
