Spotsy Board taps Meyer
The Spotsylvania School Board elected new leadership Monday evening during its first meeting of 2014.
James Meyer, Courtland District, was unanimously elected chairman.
Meyer, who has been on the board since 2011 and served throughout 2013 as vice chair, retired from the Spotsylvania school division after 26 years of service. He spent most that time as an assistant superintendent.
Meyer succeeds Amanda Blalock.
In Spotsylvania, both the chairman and vice chair serve one one-year term. “It’s a new year and a new beginning that begins today,” Meyer said.
Ray Lora, Livingston District, was unanimously voted vice chair. Lora is a Vietnam-era veteran and a former federal marshal and Secret Service agent. He taught Spanish and social studies in Prince William and Spotsylvania counties.
