Driver killed in collision with truck
A 52-year-old man is dead after his car ran into the rear corner of a parked tractor–trailer on the outskirts of the town of Culpeper on Wednesday night.
The crash happened on U.S. 29 South just north of the State Route 299 exit at about 7:55 p.m., according to Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police.
The tractor–trailer, driven by 45-year-old Jerry Lynn Cosby of Downsville, La., had pulled onto the right shoulder with a flat tire and was awaiting the arrival of a repair truck, Tyler said.
He said Brian Lynn Seay of Culpeper apparently ran off the highway in his 2002 Saturn, which was traveling south, struck the right rear end of the tractor–trailer, Tyler said.
Seay died at the scene.
Cosby, who had his emergency flashers on, was ticketed for not having triangular reflectors set out around the disabled vehicle, Tyler said.
Trooper J.T. Custer worked the accident with assistance from the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation is continuing.
