Colonial Beach woman killed in head-on crash
Virginia State Police say an 18-year-old Colonial Beach woman died Wednesday after her car collided head-on with a dump truck in King George County.
The victim was identified as Chandale E. Dillon of the 2000 block of Dwight Avenue in the Westmoreland County town.
State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar said the two-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. on State Route 3 near the intersection with Stoney Knoll Road (State Route 657) east of U.S. 301.
Molnar said Trooper D.R. Cox III’s investigation shows that Dillon, who was driving a 2000 Honda Accord, was traveling westbound on State Route 3 and crossed into the eastbound travel lane, striking a 2009 Mack dump truck head-on.
She was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, Molnar said.
The driver of the dump truck, a 48-year-old Goochland County man, also was not wearing a seat belt, Molnar said. He was injured and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital by ambulance.
State Route 3 was closed for several hours during the initial investigation, he said.
The King George County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
