Fredericksburg police are investigating a man’s claim that he was attacked and robbed while urinating behind a city business Sunday evening.
Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said police went to a medical facility in Spotsylvania County Sunday after receiving information that a man was being treated for an injury that he said he received in the city. He had a head laceration that required stitches.
Bledsoe said the man told police he went to the Citgo station at 2005 Lafayette Blvd., about 6:15 p.m. to buy beer. He was behind the building when he was approached by between one to three men, and at least one of them hit him in the back of the head with an unknown object.
His attacker or attackers then stole money from his pocket.
The man said that after he got up, he walked to his nearby home and was driven to a medical facility by a friend. It was unclear if he ever made it inside the store.
Bledsoe said the man was unable to provide a description of any of his assailants and had a difficult time remembering other details.
