Spotsylvania County detectives are investigating the unexplained death of a Westmoreland County man.
Deputies were called to 4532 Plank Road at the Hot Shots night club at 12:50 a.m on New Year’s Day for reports of a disturbance.
According to Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania sheriff’s office, deputies found 33-year-old Glenwood L. Cupid of Oak Grove unresponsive on the floor.
Witnesses at the bar told police that he had fallen and hit his head, Pearce said.
Cupid was transported to Mary Washington Hospital, where he remained in a coma for four days until he was pronounced brain dead by hospital staff, he said.
He was removed from life support on Saturday evening and died a short time later, Pearce said.
Cupid’s cause of death is unknown.
“There is no evidence at this point of exactly what happened,” Pearce said.
Detectives are awaiting autopsy results to determine if any foul play was involved, he said.
