A woman is charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence after police say she crashed her car into a house in Fredericksburg.
City police and rescue units responded to the 900 block of Sylvania Avenue Monday around 8:25 p.m. for reports of an accident.
Fredericksburg Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said a sport utility vehicle had run over a stop sign and a fire hydrant before crashing into the corner of a house.
A 62-year-old woman who lives in the house was home at the time, but was uninjured, Bledsoe said. She was one of several people who called 911.
The driver was still in the vehicle when police arrived and was not injured, Bledsoe said.
Betsy Cornett, 38, of Fredericksburg was arrested on charges of reckless driving and DUI. She is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $2,500 bond.
According to public records, Cornett lives in the same block where the crash occurred. Court records show Cornett has speeding tickets in several Virginia localities.
Bledsoe said the corner of the house was damaged along with the hedges surrounding the yard, but she did not have a property damage estimate.
