Rosner Auto Group buys Bill Britt dealerships
Bill Britt dealerships have been a staple in the Fredericksburg area since 1980.
But that’s about to change, as the Rosner Auto Group has bought the two Britt dealerships that sell Mazda and Volkswagen vehicles.
“We have agreed in principle to do just that,” Clay Huber, Rosner’s president, said Friday afternoon.
Bill Britt Jr., who along with his father owned the Britt dealerships, said he was hesitant at first.
“It took a few days to get over the personal thing,” the 43-year-old said Friday afternoon. “It was a family decision.”
He said the family just felt it was time to make the move. Plus, he said health issues—he has diabetes—played a role in his decision. He also figures he’ll have more time to spend with his family. He and his wife have five children, including triplets.
As part of the agreement, Bill Britt Jr. will work with Rosner.
Huber said there had been talk in the past about Rosner buying Britt’s dealerships, both of which are on U.S. 1 in the Four-Mile Fork area of Spotsylvania.
Things finally got serious recently and they agreed to the deal within the past two weeks, Huber said.
“The Britt family has been in the community 30-plus years and they have a wonderful name,” he added. “We’re excited to have the Britt dealership join us.”
Bill Britt Jr. said Rosner was an easy choice as a buyer because they have the same values.
Bill Britt Jr. also figures the transition will be a smooth one.
Huber said the transition should be complete in February or March, which will officially change the Britt dealerships to Rosner.
Huber said Rosner plans to hire all Britt employees.
With the Britt purchase, Rosner will now have nine dealerships in the Fredericksburg area, along with one in King George County. Rosner also operates a collision center.
Rosner opened its first local dealership in 1979 on William Street.
