Bullet hits home in Mayfield, police say
Fredericksburg police were investigating a Saturday night incident in which at least one shot was fired into a city residence.
No one was injured, though two children were in a room where a bullet was found, city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said.
The shooting occurred at 8:40 p.m. in the 200 block of Harris Street in the Mayfield subdivision, Bledsoe said. A witness reported hearing about five shots, but as of about an hour after the shooting police had only found one.
That shot had gone through a window and an interior wall before coming to rest in the room with the children.
In addition to the children, whose ages were not available, at least one adult woman was in the home. The initial 911 call came from the residence, Bledsoe said.
Another witness saw a vehicle leaving the area about the time of the shooting, but police have not determined if that vehicle was connected to the shooting.
Officers and detectives were on the scene late Saturday looking for evidence.
