Mother charged in baby’s death
A Louisa County mother is facing charges after test results determined her 6-month-old son died in March of an overdose of Benadryl and Tylenol.
Tristan T. Goodwin, 31, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and child neglect and abuse in Louisa County Circuit Court.
She was arrested last Wednesday after a nearly monthlong attempt to find her, said Major Donald Lowe of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office in a news release.
Deputies and EMS personnel responded to the 1500 block of Roundabout Road in Louisa on March 19 for a call about an infant not breathing, Lowe said.
Attempts to revive 6-month-old Tyler Firth were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead on arrival at U.Va. Hospital in Charlottesville.
Lowe said the original cause of death was thought to have been sudden infant death syndrome, but lab results returned several months later indicated a lethal dose of Benadryl and high levels of Tylenol present in the baby’s body.
Goodwin was indicted in November after a review of the test results.
Additional items have been submitted to the lab for forensic testing, Lowe said.
Goodwin is being held at Central Virginia Regional Jail without bond. She is scheduled to appear in circuit court on Monday.
