WINTER: Area avoids predicted storm
Flakes were hard to come by Tuesday, but thousands enjoyed the day off anyway, as local and federal governments were closed. The expected winter storm turned out to be less than a half-inch of rain and snow in the Fredericksburg area, according to the University of Mary Washington’s weather center. About 2 inches of slushy mix fell in Culpeper, where early-morning power outages affected 2,100 town residents after a transformer failed.
