Caroline man convicted of malicious wounding
A Caroline County man was convicted of malicious wounding Thursday in the beating of his sister’s boyfriend in Caroline County.
Ricky Alan Heinbaugh Jr., 21, faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced in Caroline Circuit Court on March 13.
Circuit Court Judge Patricia Kelly found Heinbaugh guilty in the June 11 beating of a man who was the boyfriend of Heinbaugh’s half sister.
According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Tony Spencer, Heinbaugh and two friends had been drinking alcohol while at a home in the Lake Land’Or subdivision.
One of the friends touched a 12-year-old girl inappropriately in front of her mother, and he was asked to leave, Spencer said.
Witnesses gave different accounts of what happened afterward, but Heinbaugh and the two friends allegedly attacked the sister’s boyfriend, who had asked them to leave the house.
The man was beaten until he was unresponsive, Spencer said.
The man’s injuries included a broken cheekbone, a broken nose, a broken jaw and a separated shoulder.
One of the friends was found not guilty by a jury on Wednesday. The other is still awaiting trial.
