Husband with baseball bat helps detain intruder, police say

A man apparently couldn’t wait for a Fredericksburg store to open Thursday before going inside.
Fredericksburg police said the man was already inside Populuxe at 107 William St. when the owners arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m. The couple noticed that the front door had been forced open and when they went in they saw a man walking from the back section of the business, police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said.
The suspect tried to leave after realizing he’d been seen, Bledsoe said, but was prevented from doing so by the husband, who had a baseball bat.
Meanwhile, his wife called 911 and officers arrived less than two minutes later.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Walter Crosman, 21, of no fixed address was charged with burglary and placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond. Some furniture in the store was moved around, but nothing was missing.
Police said Crosman came to this area from New York a couple of weeks ago.
