Man charged with robbing drug dealer
Charges against a man accused of robbing his drug dealer were sent to a grand jury Thursday in Stafford.
Travonte Stephon Montivero, 20, is charged with robbery and burglary. He waived a preliminary hearing in Stafford General District Court and Judge Bruce Strickland sent the case to circuit court.
According to police and court records, Montivero and 19-year-old Maury Edward Williams are accused of breaking into a home on Patton Lane near Celebrate Virginia North off U.S. 17 early July 2.
The 19-year-old victim reported that the intruders were wearing dark bandanas over their faces when they woke him up. One was holding a knife and the other a double-barrel shotgun as they took money from his wallet.
The victim reported that he was scuffling with the robbers when he realized that he knew them. In an affidavit for a search warrant filed in circuit court, the victim told Detective E.L. McCullough that he’d sold them marijuana the night before so he’d have extra money for vacation. The victim’s name is listed in the affidavit, but he has not been charged.
The victim said he chased after the suspects as they fled the home, and he tried to call them several times before reporting the robbery. Williams was arrested that same day driving the vehicle the victim had described; Montivero wasn’t arrested until Oct. 3.
A Feb. 5 jury trial is scheduled in circuit court for Williams, who is charged with multiple offenses.
