Events planned for Veterans Day

Here’s a list—though not necessarily complete—of Fredericksburg-area events open to the public honoring veterans through the long holiday weekend.

The Fredericksburg Area Veterans Council holds its annual ceremony at the Fallen Heroes Memorial at the junction of Charles, Barton and Liberty streets at 10:45 a.m. in the city. The program includes speakers, music and an experimental aircraft overflight.

The Fredericksburg chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy hosts a ceremony at 10 a.m. with a color guard and rifle squad in the Confederate Cemetery on State Route 208 in Spotsylvania.

Morning and evening flag ceremonies and receptions will be held at Stafford Hospital and Mary Washington Hospital. The flag-raisings and retirements are at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, followed by 10-minute ceremonies. Sponsored by newly formed Mary Washington Healthcare Veteran Champion Group.

The King George County Ruritan Club will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at the King George High School auditorium.
