Skyline Drive to close from dusk until dawn
Beginning Monday, much of Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park will be closed between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m.
Park officials annually close part—and eventually all—of the scenic highway in an effort to deal with poachers during gun hunting season for deer.
Between Monday and Jan. 5, Skyline Drive between Front Royal and Thornton Gap and between Swift Run Gap and Rockfish Gap will be closed at night.
The central portion of the Drive, between Thornton Gap and Swift Run Gap, will remain open for overnight access to Big Meadows campground and Skyland resort until those facilities close on Dec. 1 and Dec. 8, respectively.
Beginning Dec. 9 and ending Jan. 5, the entire length of the Skyline Drive will be closed from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. daily.
Anyone with information regarding poaching activities is asked to report them to park officials at 800/732-0911 or 540/999-2227. Rewards are being offered.
