Man charged in Spotsylvania mall bomb threat
By PORTSIA SMITH
A King George County man has been charged in connection with the Aug. 23 bomb threat at Spotsylvania Towne Centre.
Westley Cordell Witherspoon, 22, was arrested by Spotsylvania County deputies Thursday after a lengthy investigation, said Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Sheriff’s Office.
He is charged with one felony count of threatening to bomb or damage a building.
A motive for the bomb threat was not released due to the ongoing investigation, Pearce said.
Witherspoon is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
“This type of crime was senseless and caused a number of our citizens to be in fear of their lives or the lives of their loved ones,” said Spotsylvania Sheriff Roger Harris.
“It will not be tolerated and I’m proud of the skilled investigative processes utilized by our detective division to bring this case to a successful resolution.”
