Spotsy to increase patrols during Halloween
Spotsylvania County residents may notice more police uniforms this Halloween, but they aren’t costumes.
Spotsylvania Sheriff Roger Harris said he will increase the number of patrol units tonight to help ensure the safety of citizens during this trick or treat season.
Those patrolling will include bike patrol deputies, traffic division units and special detail units to supplement the deputies that are already on duty Oct. 31, Harris said.
In addition to the patrols, deputies will be on hand at the general district court lobby at 9111 Courthouse Road to offer free x-rays of any candy or food items that parents may want to check. The x-rays will only detect metallic objects hidden within an item, he said.
“We will be on increased alert for any criminal activity that may endanger persons or property,” he said.
Harris said he wants this Halloween to be happy and safe for everyone.
