Westmoreland County authorities are searching for a man they say shot his brother in the back in a dispute over money.

Sheriff C.O. Balderson said dispatchers received a 911 call around 7:18 p.m. Friday about a man being shot.

When deputies arrived, they found a 40-year-old Kinsale man with a gunshot wound to his lower back, Balderson said.

According to the victim, he and his younger brother had gotten into a fight over money at a home on Gardy’s Mill Road in Kinsale.

When the victim left the home with two other men, he told police his brother shot at the vehicle and he was struck while sitting in the back seat. The car drove a short distance to the Kinsale Handy Store, where someone dialed 911.

Robert J. Kelly, 39, of Kinsale is charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of use of a firearm to commit attempted murder, one count of malicious wounding, one count of use of a firearm to commit malicious wounding, one count of maliciously shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

He is described as a black male standing 6 feet 1 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Detective Jay Mitchell with the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office at 804/493-8066 or anonymously visit the website at westcoso.us and access TIP911 to give a tip.
