New center for seniors proposed
The Silver Cos. is proposing a senior-living facility in Fredericksburg’s Celebrate Virginia South development.
If approved, the facility would be Silver’s second Poet’s Walk community in the Fredericksburg area. The first recently opened near the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.
Poet’s Walk is “designed and built exclusively for residents with memory impairments such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lewy–Body and other related dementias,” according to its website.
The Spotsylvania location has been successful, said Jud Honaker, president of Silver’s commercial division.
The 68-bed Fredericksburg facility is proposed on Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard, across the road from a Virginia Credit Union branch.
Silver previously planned a multi-tenant retail building on that site, but Honaker said the company later decided to pursue the Poet’s Walk community instead.
Silver needs an amendment to Celebrate Virginia’s zoning district to move forward with the project. The Fredericksburg Planning Commission will discuss the matter Nov. 13.
Not far from the proposed Poet’s Walk location in Fredericksburg, Blacksburg-based developer HHHunt recently opened a Spring Arbor assisted-living community near the corner of Bragg and River roads just over the Spotsylvania line.
