VRE commuters say ride is getting better
It appears that Virginia Railway Express riders are happy with the commuter rail service, according to this year’s annual survey.
The survey was completed in May and the results released on Friday.
Of 41 categories, VRE got better ratings than last year in 33 of them. On the negative side, just 2 percent of the 6,305 riders who took the survey said VRE service had not improved in the past year.
On-time performance, something VRE has improved lately, received excellent or above average ratings from 89 percent of survey respondents.
Crew performance also got high marks.
Riders’ top issue was pricing, even though “level of fare for quality and value of service” spiked 6 points this year to 67 percent.
Two key “hot topic” issues survey takers wanted to see addressed in the next year were lack of seats and frequency of train service. Getting Wi–Fi on trains was another important issue for riders.
Reliability of ticket vending machines, platform information and train circulation received the lowest marks in the survey.
