Former first lady coming to Montpelier

Susan Allen, former first lady of Virginia, will be at James Madison’s Montpelier on Monday when the historic site offers a day of experiential learning designed for home-schooling families.

Last spring’s Homeschool Day, Montpelier’s first, drew more than 1,000 students from across the region.

Allen will discuss her new children’s book, “The Remarkable Ronald Reagan: Cowboy and Commander in Chief.”

Allen’s talk, followed by a book signing, is set for the visitor center’s Grand Salon at 11 a.m.

Educational programs will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Learning opportunities will include Colonial games, archaeology, guided forest tours and a mock constitutional convention.

Admission is $5 per person and free for children under 6.
