LOCAL BRIEFS: Joint meeting scheduled on Port Royal boundary issue
The Port Royal Town Council and the Caroline Board of Supervisors will hold a joint work session today at 6:45 p.m. to discuss the proposed boundary adjustment.
The town wants to grow to be able to bring in more revenue. The boundaries proposed would add a few businesses to the town, including Horne’s and River Haven restaurants.
The supervisors held a public hearing at their Sept. 24 meeting, but pushed off the decision to allow for more discussion with the town during the work session.
The Town Council unanimously supports the change, but the supervisors still have questions.
The meeting is in the Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, in Milford.
Express lane bridge work will cause delays on interstate
Expect delays along Interstate 95 in the Garrisonville area the next few weeks for bridge work on the express lanes project.
This week through Friday, daytime left-lane closures will take place each way just north of the Aquia/Garrisonville exit as crews set steel beams for a bridge in the median, according to Virginia Megaprojects, the Virginia Department of Transportation’s office overseeing the express lanes work.
The steel beam work will continue next week, as crews shift to the right southbound shoulder in the same area. That work will lead to dual-lane closures overnight Oct. 14–17.
Farther north the following week, from Oct. 18–20, there will be full, overnight closures of southbound I–95 near the Quantico/Russell Road exit so crews can set steel beams for a bridge in that area.
Southbound traffic will have to use a detour from Russell Road to U.S. 1. From there traffic will have to go south to Route 610 and the southbound I–95 exit. One lane of southbound U.S. 1 south of Russell Road will be closed off for the detoured traffic.
