Con men bilk elderly man
Three con men stole several hundred dollars Friday from an elderly Fredericksburg man, police said.
The victim, who is in his 80′s, was in his yard in the 3000 block of Linden Avenue about 4:30 p.m. when he was approached by three men who offered to repair his roof. The homeowner declined that offer, but accepted a subsequent one to have his driveway sealed, police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said.
While the work was being done, one of the men asked to use the bathroom and the homeowner accompanied him inside. A short time later, Bledsoe said, one of the other men distracted the homeowner by asking him to come out to the back yard.
When the older man got back inside, he noticed that the file cabinet in his bedroom had been opened and money was missing. He went back outside to confront the workers, but by that time they were gone and the work had not been completed.
The men were described only as Hispanic males driving a dually pickup truck. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call city police at 373-3122.
