VDOT HOT SPOTS
U.S. 17 southbound
(New) Beginning on Monday, Sept. 23, the speed limit on U.S. 17 southbound between Cardinal Forest Drive and International Parkway will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph for a construction work zone. The speed limit reduction is in connection with the U.S. 17 Widening Project.
State Route 644 (Rock Hill Church Road)
(New) Monday–Wednesday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Rock Hill Church road between State Route 627 (Mountain View Road) and State Route 610 (Garrisonville road). Crews will be milling, paving and restriping in this area.
State Route 218 (Chatham Heights Road)
Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane periodically on Chatham Heights Road between the Wawa and Castle Rock Drive for a sidewalk construction project on the westbound side of Chatham Heights Road. The project is expected to be complete in November.
State Route 616 (Poplar Road)
Monday–Wednesday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Poplar Road between U.S. 17 and State Route 662 (Stony Hill Road). Crews will be paving and restriping in this area.
West Cambridge Street/King Street/River Road
Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on West Cambridge Street/King Street/River Road in the vicinity of the Falmouth Bridge for utility relocation work associated with the Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project. Motorists should expect brief delays.
State Route 1115 (Maple Grove Drive)
(New) Monday–Sunday, 24-hour work zone; starting on Monday, crews will replace a culvert on Maple Grove Drive that currently has a 20-ton weight restriction. Once the culvert is replaced, the wight restriction will be lifted. During the project, motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone. Traffic will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Work is expected to last for approximately two weeks.
(New) Wednesday–Friday, daylight to dusk, motorists will be restricted to one lane at various locations on the following secondary routes for paving work:
State Route 645 (Sunset Road)
State Route 1428 (Gibbs Drive)
State Route 1429 (Fisher Drive)
State Route 991 (Horseshoe Drive)
State Route 992 (Horseshoe Drive)
State Route 705 (Jennings Lane)
Friday, daylight to dusk, crews will be placing shoulder stone at various locations in Summerset Subdivision. Motorists should expect brief delays in the work zone.
Interstate 95, Northbound
Sunday–Thursday, 9 p.m.–5 a.m.; paving work continues on I–95 northbound between mile marker 112 and mile marker 115. This work zone is located between Exit 110/State Route 639/Ladysmith and Exit 118 (State Route 606/Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County. To avoid delays, motorists may exit northbound I–95 at Exit 110 to access U.S. 1 as an alternate route. Paving will continue through mid-October.
Interstate 95 Northbound Exit 110 (Ladysmith)
Sunday–Tuesday, 9 p.m.–5 a.m.; the on-ramp and off-ramp at Exit 110/Ladysmith will be closed overnight on Monday and Tuesday evening for paving. The ramps will be open to traffic on Sunday evening, but motorists may experience a rougher driving surface due to milling work. Motorists should use Exit 104/Carmel Church or Exit 118/Thornburg to access I–95 northbound. the I–95 southbound exit will remain open.
State Route 605 (Paige Road)
Sunday–Wednesday, 6 p.m.–6 a.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Paige Road at the bridge over I–95 . Crews are patching the bridge deck.
State Route 606
Tuesday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; crews will be placing stone along the shoulder on State Route 606 eastbound between the Caroline/Spotsylvania County line to State Route 2. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on Paige Road at the bridge over I–95.
(New) Monday–Tuesday, daylight to dusk; motorists will be restricted to one lane at various locations on the following secondary routes for paving:
State Route 756 (Chance Place)
State Route 634 (Michaels Road)
State Route 604 (Gatewood Road)
U.S. 17 is being widened from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The speed limit is reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph on the northbound and southbound U.S. 17 between Cardinal Forest Drive and International Parkway. Motorists should be alert of periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.
U.S. 1 bridge over Aquia Creek
Crews are replacing the U.S. 1 bridge at Aquia Creek, just south of Telegraph Road. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment entering and exiting the work zone. Estimated completion is August 2015.
Falmouth Intersection (U.S. 1/ U.S. 17/State Route 218)
Utility relocation work is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on U.S. 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Construction work will begin in early 2014.
State Route 600 (Frog Level Road)
Boot Swamp bridge replacement project is underway. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on the State Route 600 bridge. Estimated completion is summer 2014.
