Crash on one-way street leads to multiple charges
A Fredericksburg man was charged with his fourth driving under the influence offense early Tuesday after he crashed into two parked cars on Hanover Street, police said.
The incident occurred at 1:25 a.m. in the 500 block of Hanover Street, city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said. The driver of a Honda Civic was traveling the wrong direction on the one-way street when he ran into a Porsche and a Toyota pickup truck. The owner of one of the vehicles that was hit witnessed the crash and called police.
Police said the driver ran from the scene, leaving his vehicle behind.
City officers found him a short time later a few blocks away and took him into custody.
Cung Nawl Val, 32, was charged with driving while intoxicated, fourth offense within 10 years; driving on a revoked license; and refusing to take a breath or blood test.
He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Police records listed Val as the chief sushi chef at The Orion Sushi Bar and Lounge on William Street, which opened last month, although the restaurant’s owner indicated he no longer works there. His prior DUI convictions were in Florida, where his Civic is registered.
