UMW work to cause detours until Oct. 11
Utilities work for the University of Mary Washington’s new campus center will require detours and one road closure from Monday through Oct. 11, Fredericksburg’s Public Works Department announced.
Workers will be connecting existing gas, water and sewer lines in College Avenue to the work site during this time.
The work will block two addresses on College Avenue for three days. The private home at 1512 College Ave. will be fully blocked from Monday through Wednesday of next week. The Catholic Student Center at 1614 College Ave. will be partially blocked for three days beginning Sept. 30.
The city of Fredericksburg agreed to post “No Parking” signs along both sides of College Avenue from Rowe Street to Payne Street during the work period.
UMW has made a map available that depicts the detours. It can be accessed online at fredericksburg va.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1299.
Southbound traffic toward William Street will be detoured at Rowe Street to Augustine Avenue and back to College Avenue at Payne Street.
Northbound traffic toward U.S. 1 will remain on College Avenue. The intersection of Parcell Street and College Avenue will be closed throughout the work period with resident access from Augustine Avenue.
The detour will end on Oct. 11, but “No Parking” will remain in effect on the UMW side of College Avenue in the construction area until July 2015. Parking on the
other side of College Avenue will be restricted periodically during construction.
Anyone with questions on the construction can check the project website, umw .edu/campuscenter, or contact Capital Outlay Project Manager Les Johnson at 540/654-2100 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
