Fitness studios are opening in the city
Two Fredericksburg fitness facilities are opening this week.
FLY Fitness Inspiration is starting to offer classes on the second floor at 501 William St., above the Paymon Fine Rug Imports store in downtown Fredericksburg. Planet Fitness will open Friday at the Eagle Village center off U.S. 1.
FLY Fitness’ 2,000-square-foot space overlooks Hurkamp Park and includes hardwood floors and ample natural light. FLY’s classes include spinning, yoga, pilates and TRX suspension training. Customers can pay for single classes or bundle together multiple ones.
Local resident Catesby Payne owns FLY Fitness. A wall was added to separate the cycling room from the larger space for other classes. Payne plans to add showers to the two bathrooms. She also plans to offer massage therapy in an adjacent room and offer some refreshments, perhaps to include a juice and coffee bar. The fitness studio has a separate entrance on the Prince Edward Street side.
The Eagle Village gym is the first in the area for Planet Fitness. It’s in an 18,000-square-foot space that was formerly home to Frank’s Nursery & Crafts. Planet Fitness provides brand-name cardio and strength-training equipment, but doesn’t try to offer some of the frills that its competitors have. As a result, membership costs are significantly lower, either $10 or $19.99 per month.
