Two motorists charged with DUI, drove kids
Two drivers were arrested Thursday in Stafford County on unrelated charges of drunken driving while carrying small children in their vehicles, police said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said the first incident occurred about 1:33 a.m. on Interstate 95 south. First Sgt. Robbie Grella was near the U.S 17 exit when a vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then proceeded to slow down and speed up repeatedly.
Grella stopped the car and both the driver and her intoxicated passenger were arrested. The driver’s 2-year-old child was turned over to social services.
Lori Brooks, 39, and Gregory Chamberlain, 51, both of Baltimore, were charged with felony child neglect. Brooks was also charged with DUI and drinking while driving and Chamberlain with being drunk in public. Both were placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
The second incident occurred about 7:36 p.m. when a caller reported an erratic driver swerving all over the road in the Wayside area near Stafford Courthouse. Deputy Dimas Pinzon got behind a vehicle on Courthouse Road and stopped it not far from the Sheriff’s Office. A partially consumed can of beer was found in a bag and a small child was in a car seat.
Lawrence McCann, 48, of Stafford was charged with driving while intoxicated, drinking while driving and child neglect. He was jailed under a $5,000 bond.
