City convenience store robbed at gunpoint
For the second Friday in two weeks, a business near the Interstate 95 exit in Fredericksburg was hit by armed robbers.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the latest robbery occurred about 12:30 p.m. at the Handy Mart at 3054 Plank Road. A clerk told police that two men approached the counter and demanded money. One of them displayed a handgun, but no one was injured.
She complied and the robbers got an undisclosed amount of money before running toward the adjacent Burger King. City police were contacted by an alarm company reporting that a silent panic alarm had been pushed at the business. Officers surrounded that area and searched for the robbers without success.
The robbers were described as black men in their 20s. Both had short hair and were wearing black shirts, and one of them had on camouflage pants.
A similar robbery occurred Aug. 23 at the Shell station at 2301 Plank Road. The suspect descriptions were similar and Bledsoe said police “are certainly looking into the possibility that they might be related, but at this point it’s too early to draw any conclusions.”
