Fredericksburg Police are investigating a city man’s claim that he was stabbed during an early morning robbery attempt Saturday.
The reported incident occurred about 4 a.m. in the area of Greenbrier and Armory drives, police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said. The 27-year-old victim said he was out taking a walk when a man approached from behind and demanded money.
The victim said that after he refused, the stranger grabbed him. During the ensuing struggle, the victim was stabbed in the back.
The victim broke free and ran back to his nearby apartment, where he called a friend to come take him to Mary Washington Hospital. He received multiple stitches at the hospital.
City police weren’t notified until being contacted by someone at the hospital. Police later found blood in the victim’s apartment.
The assailant was described as a black male, possibly in his 30s. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall and was wearing a black hoodie and jeans.
