Eagle-eyed golfer spies stolen clubs
A 79-year-old Fredericksburg man’s routine trip to the post office Tuesday led him to his stolen golf clubs, police said.
The clubs were taken from the man’s unlocked car, which was parked at his home in the 1900 block of Washington Avenue. The victim last saw the clubs Sunday night.
Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said the man didn’t report the theft until Tuesday afternoon, when he went to the post office in Eagle Village and noticed his clubs for sale in front of Play It Again Sports next to the post office.
Bledsoe said the man called police, and the store returned the clubs to the victim after finding out they had been stolen. Store officials also provided information about the man who had sold the clubs to the store on Monday for about $50.
Police have identified the seller as a 26-year-old local man, Bledsoe said, but had not interviewed or charged him as of Wednesday.
