A Fredericksburg man was arrested Monday after a neighbor complained about him beating his girlfriend’s dog, police said.
City police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said an officer went to the 600 block of Denton Circle about 6:40 p.m. after an anonymous caller reported that a man was beating a chihuahua.
The officer found the dog, which is between 7 and 8 months old, in the yard with injuries. After speaking with 48-year-old Miles Lamont Gilbert, police charged him with a misdemeanor offense of cruelty to animals.
Police determined that the beating stemmed from the dog relieving itself inside the residence, Bledsoe said.
The live-in girlfriend was contacted and took the dog to an emergency animal clinic, where it was determined that its injuries included a broken left front foot, an injured right front foot, injuries to both ears and a bruise in the chest area.
Miles was issued a summons and released. His arraignment is scheduled for July 30 in Fredericksburg General District Court.
