Crash leads to auto-theft investigation
A car crash turned into an auto-theft case Thursday evening.
After receiving a report of an auto accident in North Stafford at about 7:30 p.m., a deputy responded to the intersection of Mine Road and North Vine Place near the Townes of Hampton Oaks.
The car was found facing the wrong way in the turn lane on North Vine Place, according to Bill Kennedy, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
A witness said two males, who appeared to be juveniles, ran from the car after the crash.
One of the boys apparently tossed a beer can while fleeing the scene. The can was found about 50 feet from the car, Kennedy said.
What appeared to be a broken wine bottle also was found near the vehicle, and there was an odor of alcohol inside the car, Kennedy said.
The owner of the vehicle told the deputy that she had parked outside a residence on Tolbelt Court earlier, Kennedy said. She said she had been there about an hour before going outside to find that her car was gone.
She was taken to the crash scene and identified the vehicle.
