Police identify drowning victim
Police have identified the teenage boater who drowned in Lake Anna Sunday as a Vienna man.
The body of 19-year-old Brian Lee was found around 5 p.m. Sunday by divers from the Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management department.
His body was found about 10 minutes after divers entered the water using sonar equipment.
Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office said Lee did know how to swim and no foul play is suspected.
The county’s water rescue team arrived on the scene at about 3:18 p.m., about 15 minutes after they were called to the lake. By the time the call was made, the man had been missing about 30 minutes.
Then, shortly after 4 p.m., authorities changed the mission from rescue to recovery.
Divers then entered the water at about 4:49 p.m.
Sunday’s drowning was the second at the lake so far this year. On Memorial Day, a 6-year-old Richmond girl drowned while fishing with family members.
